Synology releases DSM 7.2.2, bringing enhanced system reliability and maximized media processing efficiency
Taipei, Taiwan—August 26, 2024—Synology today released DiskStation Manager (DSM) 7.2.2. This latest update enhances system reliability by addressing potential factors that impact system operations and improves the efficiency of media file processing through a decentralized strategy.
"We are dedicated to improving the user experience with every update," said Kenneth Hsu, Director of System Group. "With DSM 7.2.2, we thoroughly examined subsystems that play an essential role in data management and committed significant resources to re-engineer DSM, supporting packages, and mobile apps to make them more scalable and dependable."
A more dependable business platform
DSM 7.2.2 brings comprehensive enhancements to system reliability. Full-system restoration from C2 Storage via Hyper Backup is now 4 times faster than before, significantly reducing business RTO. Hybrid Share folders and data transfer activities are more resilient after abnormal server power events. Additionally, SSO login availability has been improved by enhancing compatibility with Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory).
Advanced data security
Data security is also enhanced in DSM 7.2.2. This update strengthens the file system's capabilities in automatically repairing bitflip errors and improves the reliability of adaptive multi-factor authentication. Additionally, the security of immutable snapshots has been fortified by addressing a potential risk that allowed snapshots to be unlocked through manual attribute changes by administrators.
Maximizing media processing efficiency
DSM 7.2.2 introduces a strategic shift in offloading media processing to clients and mobile devices, leveraging widespread media decoding and encoding capabilities to reduce unnecessary server resource usage. By simply installing the Synology Image Assistant Extension and desktop app, users can now experience a thumbnail processing performance that is 2.5 times faster1 compared to server-side processing. This performance improvement scales as the number of concurrent users increases.
DSM 7.2.2 is now available for download. For detailed information on the updates, please refer to the release notes.
1. Testing conducted by Synology using DSM 7.2.2 and Synology Photos to convert 80 images, totaling 153MB, into thumbnails. The server used was a DS224+ (J4125), and the client device is equipped with a i5-7400 3GHz processor.
