Synology® Announces Cooperation with IP Camera Manufacturer VIVOTEK

Taipei, Taiwan—October 20, 2008—After the formal release of its September firmware upgrade of Synology Disk Station Manager 2.0, Synology unveiled today its official cooperation with VIVOTEK to solidify a stable grounding in the emerging surveillance market.

Given the fact that users are facing a demand for home and small office surveillance, and that their constrained resources or budgets do not always allow the exercise of a professional digital video recorder (DVR), Synology launched the Surveillance Station earlier this March to support its "New Extension" initiative for 2008. Utilizing the existing Internet infrastructure, this built-in application of Synology’s Disk Station Manager 2.0 provides a flexible and economic alternative to manage multiple IP cameras on a centralized web interface, introducing live view and video recording in both continuous and motion-detection modes.

With the September firmware upgrade, various new enhancements have been added, including MPEG-4 video format, mega-pixel video support, and Alarm Recording Mode. "We have been constantly expanding our compatibility list for IP cameras with reputable brands in the IP surveillance industry as well," said Edward Lin, Marketing Director of Synology, "VIVOTEK has cultivated the market and developed its technical capability for many years thus tops the partner list to cooperate with. Today we are very pleased to announce the grand cooperation with VIVOTEK."

VIVOTEK's support for the Surveillance Station provides Synology users cost-effective, yet professional network cameras alternatives to monitor their home and working environments. "Our advanced technology on both the MJPEG and MPEG-4 video compression allows a seamless image transition via Synology’s AJAX web interface," said Owen Chen, Chairman of VIVOTEK. "Welcoming the integration with Synology's Surveillance Station, we are glad to introduce our users to another great alternative of managing their VIVOTEK IP cameras, and I believe the cooperation with Synology will lead to the best interests for users from both sides."

Technical teams from Synology and VIVOTEK had worked closely to assure the perfect compatibility of 17 fixed and PTZ VIVOTEK IP camera models, and thanks to these great efforts, the total compatible IP cameras for Synology’s Surveillance Station have amounted to 70 models, contributing to a more flexible network video recorder (NVR) solution for Synology NAS users.
