Migrates data, system settings, and packages from one Synology NAS to another for upgrading or replacing your NAS
Maximizes the system uptime of the original NAS by continuing to provide services to users during migration, and syncs new changes to the destination device before the migration process is complete
Supports stopping and resuming the migration task during migration in case of unexpected power outages or network disconnections
Specifications
Requires DSM 6.0 or above for the source device, and DSM 6.2.2 or above for the destination device
Requires the Migration Assistant package to be installed on the destination device for migration. All data and system settings on the destination device will be deleted and replaced by the source ones
Migrates data on a volume/block-level LUN basis, which disallows the changing of file system type (e.g., from ext4 to Btrfs)
Services on the source device remain available to users during the majority of the migration process, with temporary pause at the beginning and the end of the migration, minimizing the disruptions of day-to-day business operations
The destination device retains its original DSM version and will not be rolled back to the source device's DSM version
All data, packages, and system configurations will be migrated by Migration Assistant, with the exception of the following items: (Learn how to configure these settings in this article)
Synology Account settings
Licenses
Network settings in Control Panel
Server name, Default gateway, IPv6 default gateway in General tab
Network Interface (except for VPN profile, IPv6 Tunneling, MTU value in IPv4 settings, and 802.1X)
Static Route
Push Service settings in Control Panel > Notification
Desktop widget and taskbar settings
Virtual Machine Manager's settings
Firewall and DHCP server settings will be migrated, but will be disabled on the destination device by default
Supports migration logs
Supports automatic storage pool creation if the destination device has no storage pool (More details)
Ports between 7400 and 7499 are reserved for migration
The SSH service on the source device will be automatically enabled by Migration Assistant after connecting to the source device
Factors impacting the migration speed include the RAID type, network environment, and the services running on the source device. If there are services running on the source device, the migration speed may be automatically reduced down to 30MB/s, at the lowest, to ensure the quality of service on the source device
Limitations
Does not support Synology High Availability, SSD cache, MailPlus cluster, and Time Backup
Does not support migrating volumes bigger than 200 TB
The following services cannot be performed on the source device during migration:
Upgrading packages through Central Management System (CMS) host when the source device is joined to CMS as a managed server
Applying updated policy rules related to syslog when the source device is joined to CMS as a managed server
Centrally installing DSM and packages on managed servers when the source device is running as a CMS host
Playing videos with Video Station
Adding download tasks, downloading RSS feeds, or using BT Search in Download Station
Restoring Synology Application Service with Hyper Backup
Resource Monitor on the destination device is unavailable during migration
