PT Amerta Indah Otsuka Boosts Backup Efficiency and Secures Entire IT Infrastructure with Synology

A reliable and consistent backup process is essential for PT Amerta Indah Otsuka. When the IT team upgraded their 14 virtual machines (VMs), the previous backup software became incompatible, forcing them to halt the entire backup process. This left their systems vulnerable without proper backups—but that wasn’t their only challenge.

PT Amerta Indah Otsuka also ran Windows-based physical servers and industrial PCs, each using different backup software. Lacking centralized management, handling these backups was time-consuming and costly. The COVID-19 pandemic added new challenges as the company adopted a hybrid work system. Office employees could access files via the SMB network, but remote workers had to store files locally on personal laptops. Without file synchronization, productivity dropped due to file duplication and lack of access to necessary versions. The company needed a centralized solution for backing up servers, VMs, endpoints, and syncing files for employees.

PT Amerta Indah Otsuka selected Synology Active Backup for Business (ABB) for data backup and Synology Drive for file synchronization and sharing. They utilized the RS2416RP+ for data storage and the SA3600 to centralize all backup tasks.
ABB simplified data backup by offering a single centralized portal to manage all backup tasks, including protecting VMs, physical servers, and PCs. The built-in deduplication technology reduced the backup size from 22.55 TB to 2.9 TB, saving 85% in total storage space and reducing backup costs. Moreover, ABB enabled the company to recover VMs twice as fast as with their previous solution. With the new backup solution, PT Amerta Indah Otsuka also easily virtualized their physical servers using Synology's built-in hypervisor, Virtual Machine Manager.
