Please read the following notes for important setup details and troubleshooting tips for your Synology NAS as the backup source.
Back up (shared) folders
Hyper Backup offers you flexible ways to select the shared folders, folders, and files you wish to back up. You can tick and untick the checkboxes to select what to back up. There are 3 different backup selections to choose from:
Backup Selection | Description |
---|---|
Parent and subfolder backup |
Back up selected subfolders "a, b, c", as well as all individual files within folder "A". Any new subfolders and individual files created in folder "A" in the future will also be backed up. |
Parent folder backup |
Back up only individual files within folder "A". Any new subfolders and individual files created in folder "A" in the future will also be backed up. |
Subfolder backup |
Back up only selected subfolders "a, b, c" within folder "A". |
Notes:
- The maximum length of the complete folder path for backup is 4,080 characters.
- If the backup source folder is an encrypted shared folder or its subfolder, the source folder can be mounted or unmounted when you are creating the backup task.
- For multi-version backup, you can only back up encrypted shared folders that are mounted, and restore them into encrypted/unencrypted folders. For single-version backup, you can back up encrypted shared folders that are mounted or unmounted, and restore them into encrypted/unencrypted folders. To restore them encrypted, an encrypted shared folder under the same name must be mounted on the local Synology NAS. The restored folder will not be automatically mounted on startup.
- Using remotely mounted folders and other package mounted folders as the backup source is not supported. For example, if you install Active Backup for Business on DSM, the related default folder under the shared folder, ActiveBackupforBusiness, is not allowed to be backed up due to file format limitation.
- When choosing to back up the whole volume, once there is a newly created shared folder, it will be automatically added to the backup source.
- Backing up Hybrid Share folders is not supported in single-version backup tasks.
