I live outside of China. Do I need to verify my phone number for my Synology Account?

Details

Phone verification is only required when you need to access a NAS located in China via QuickConnect.

Resolution

If you wish to continue using the network services in China, please sign in to Synology Account.

A setup wizard will appear. Choose either of the following two methods to complete the setup.1

  5. A message indicating that your phone number has been successfully verified will appear. Once it is complete, your account and related license information will be stored at account.synology.cn, and this process cannot be reversed.

Method 2: Create a new account

Please note that if you choose this method, your transaction history and credit card information will be erased, and purchased licenses will not be able to be transferred across accounts.

  1. Tick Create a new account and click Next.
  2. Create a Synology Account at account.synology.cn
  3. Connect to Synology NAS without using QuickConnect (e.g., private IP address or DDNS).
  4. Re-enable your QuickConnect with the account you just created.2
    1. DSM 7.0: Go to Control Panel > External Access > QuickConnect > General and tick Enable QuickConnect.
    2. DSM 6.2: Go to Control Panel > QuickConnect > General and tick Enable QuickConnect.
  5. Once enabled, your QuickConnect ID will be transferred to the new Synology Account, but your devices will remain in the device list of the original Synology Account. You can delete them manually.

Notes:

  1. If the wizard does not show up, you can still manually change your Synology Account location to China by following the instructions here.
  2. You can use the same QuickConnect ID as that of the original NAS. If you choose to do so, do not reset the NAS before re-enabling your QuickConnect service.
