How do I add music stored on my Synology NAS to iTunes?
Purpose
You can stream music and videos stored on your Synology NAS via iTunes over the local network. This article will show you how to add music stored on your Synology NAS to iTunes.
Resolution
Mount your NAS music folder to your PC
- Open File Explorer from the taskbar or the Start menu, or press the Windows key + E.
- Select This PC from the left pane. Then, on the Computer tab, select Map network drive.
- Select a drive letter from the drop-down menu.
- Enter \\SERVER\SHARE into the folder field, replacing SERVER with your NAS IP address and SHARE with the shared folder name.
- Click Finish and enter your Synology NAS username and password in the pop-up window.
- You can now find the mapped folder under This PC.
Update your iTunes Media folder location
- Open iTunes on your PC. Go to Edit > Preferences.
- Go to Advanced and click Change to modify the iTunes Media folder location.
- Select the folder you mapped in This PC and click Select Folder to continue.
- The iTunes Media folder location is now updated.
Add music to iTunes
- In iTunes, go to File > Add Folder to Library.
- Select all folders in the mapped folder and click Select Folder.
- After a few minutes, the music in the mapped folder on your Synology NAS will be added to iTunes.
