1. Manual installation
DS video and Samsung Smart TV installation
- Install Video Station on DSM and select folders to index your movies, TV shows, Home videos, and other libraries.
- Install DS video on the Samsung Smart TV. It can be found on Samsung app store.
- Make sure you have internet connection before entering the Channel Store (required for Samsung TV apps).
- Since October 1, 2018, Samsung has has no longer supported application updates for Orsay and AV models . DS video is still available on these models, but updates are no longer available:
- All models between 2012 and 2014
- Certain models from 2015 (15TV_ENTRY)
- All Blu-ray players (AV_BD, AV_PVR)
Manual installation methods
Installation through the TV’s developer mode (Method 1):
Only available if the Samsung TV model is from 2012 or later (see the Availability and compatible TV models section below).
- Enter the Smart Hub.
- Select Login.
- Sign in with either of the following "develop" accounts:
- Using the system developer account:
- Account name: develop
- Password: none (Just input any six characters).
- Tap Login
- Creating a "develop" account:
- Account name: develop
- Password: develop or 000000
- Once you are signed in, go to Settings > Development > Server IP.
- Enter the following IP address: 211.23.38.112
- Return to Settings > Development > User Application Synchronization.
- Agree to any further message. You will then find DS video ready on Smart Hub.
- Through the installation process, the app is directly installed on the TV. For details, please refer to the following:
- E-series (2012 models): Visit here and refer to the Configuring the TV section.
- F-series (2013 models): Steps may vary depending on the TV firmware. Please contact Samsung for details.
- H-series (2014 models): Visit here and refer to the Configuring the TV section.
Installation using an attached USB stick (Method 2):
Only available if you have a non-Tizen series model from 2013 or later (See the Availability and compatible TV models section below).
- Download the following files that match your Samsung TV series model and save the files on a USB stick. The files must be unzipped (on the root of the USB stick) before you open them.
- E-series (2012 models): Download installation file
- F-series & H-series: Download installation file
- On Samsung Smart Hub, go to the Apps page and scroll down to More Apps.

- Insert the USB stick into one of the USB ports of the TV (insert it after you have navigated to Apps > More Apps).
- Please wait for the icon of DS video to appear and launch it: This may take a bit more time as the app is launched from a USB device.
- After installing DS video on your Samsung Smart TV, you need to sign in to access your Synology NAS:
- On the sign-in page, enter your:
- Synology NAS IP: Open a browser and enter find.synology.com in the address bar. Your IP address will be next to the name of your NAS. This method is only available if your TV and Synology NAS are connected to the same network.
- User account
- Password
- After you have successfully signed in to DS video, the function menu will be displayed on your Smart TV.
If you choose to connect through HTTPS, make sure your Samsung TV has received the SSL certificate. Samsung TV's DS video does not support QuickConnect connections.
2. Available features
All of your video content will be instantly accessible on your Samsung Smart TV. DS video allows users to browse and play videos on "Movie", "TV Show", "Home Video", and custom libraries.
- Scheduling TV programs are not available on DS video for Samsung Smart TV.
- User-defined collections can be viewed but can’t be managed.
3. Availability and compatible TV models
For the availability and compatibility of DS video, refer to Samsung's official website.
- DS video is not available in China due to local regulations about video apps, so manual installation is necessary.
4. Supported video and audio formats
The Playback function depends on the Samsung Smart TV model. We recommend you to refer directly to the specifications page of your TV model on Samsung’s website. The compatible video and audio formats will not be played if the files are not indexed on Video Station.
5. Known limitations
- E-series (2012 models):
- HTTPS connection is not available.
- The support for updates ended after version 1.2.0.
- Installation methods 1 and 2 are not supported on J-series (2015 models) and K-series (2016 models). However, you can still install the latest official version from the Samsung app store.
- TV Recording live streaming is unavailable over the HTTPS connection.
- DS video supports .srt subtitles with Unicode and UTF-8 encoding.
- Signing in with a password solely with spaces is not possible (Samsung keyboard limitations).
- To sign in with a blank password, do not fill in the password field and do not enter the input mode (Samsung keyboard limitations).
- Even if you only need to stream on your local network, your Samsung TV still needs to be connected to the Internet to launch DS video (Samsung Smart Hub limitations).
