Instant Restore to Synology Virtual Machine Manager
Active Backup for Business integrates with Synology Virtual Machine Manager (VMM), providing an alternative solution for disaster recovery, browsing and restoring application data, and testing environment upgrades. This article explains how to instantly restore backed-up devices to Synology VMM.
Before You Start
Consider the following details before instantly restoring to Synology VMM:
- Instant restore to Synology VMM requires DSM 6.2 or above and Synology VMM 2.3.4 or above. Refer to Technical Specifications.
- Synology Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) is unavailable if compression, encryption, or data checksum for advanced data integrity is enabled at the backup destinations. This only affects Synology models with the following package arches: Avoton, Braswell, Bromolow, Cedarview, and Grantley.
- Snapshot and replication is unavailable after an instant restore to Synology VMM if compression, encryption, or data checksum for advanced data integrity is enabled at the backup destinations.
Instant Restore to Synology VMM
- Choose either of the following methods to launch the Restore Wizard:
- Go to Active Backup for Business > Virtual Machine > VMware vSphere select the virtual machine and restore point to restore and click Restore.
- Go to Active Backup for Business > Virtual Machine > Task List, select the backup task to restore and click Restore.
- Select Instant Restore to Synology Virtual Machine Manager (VMM). Refer to Synology Virtual Machine Manager for more details.
- Select a storage.
- Configure the virtual machine to run on Synology VMM.
- Follow the wizard to complete the setup.
- Go to VMM to power on your virtual machine and start up its services.
