Synology Storage Console for Windows

Synology Storage Console for Windows is a storage management tool on Windows that simplifies monitoring multiple Synology storage systems for administrators. With Storage Console installed, you can take application-consistent snapshots directly from DSM.

Installation

System requirements

  • Windows:
    • Windows Server 2012
    • Windows Server 2012 R2
    • Windows Server 2016
    • Windows Server 2019
    • Windows Server 2022
  • Synology: DiskStation Manager 6.2.3 or above

Steps

  1. Download Storage Console for Windows (.exe) from Download Center.
  2. Run the installation on your Windows Server and follow the onscreen instructions.

Managing and monitoring your storage systems

Once added to Synology Storage Console, your storage systems can be monitored from the application. Your Synology NAS is referred to as storage system in Synology Storage Console.

To add a storage system:

Click Add. Enter the IP address, username and password of the storage system you want to connect to.

To remove a storage system:

Click Remove to delete a storage system.

To edit a storage system:

Click Edit and modify the IP address, username and password of the storage system if needed.

To monitor storage systems:

Click the arrow on the right side of each storage system to display detailed information section. Under each storage system, there is a list of its LUNs along with further details:

  • Drive path: The mount point folder path or a drive letter you assigned when mounting the LUN drive.
  • Name
  • Status: When the status is Error, please refer to the additional information in Details for troubleshooting.
  • DSM volume usage: Please note that when volume space drops below 1 GB, some LUN functions may not be available.
  • Details: You can check here for further information when there are issues with the LUN.

Terminology:

  • Application-consistent snapshot: Application-consistent snapshots on Windows Server ensure data consistency by leveraging Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). When you try to take an application-consistent snapshot for a LUN on DSM, Windows Server will be notified and all data will be flushed from the memory to the LUN before the snapshot is taken.
