The museum's technical team has found the Synology-based approach to be a proven, reliable and essential component of the museum’s media storage and production management. The stability and flexibility of the Synology Disk Station Manager (DSM) have been a positive contribution to the team's storage-related toolset.
Museum of the Future, The Operational Experience
The Challenge
Due to the large number of projects, The Museum of the Future needed a secure and reliable storage solution for their media content and video editing. With projects involving artworks, commercials, and video projections featuring high-resolution files up to 8K, the museum's storage needs grew exponentially each year. To address the annual increase of roughly 110TB, the museum turned to Synology storage solutions to meet their expanding requirements.
The Solution
The museum initially installed two SA3400 units, which now serve as the backbone of video and audio screens across its exhibitions. These units ensure seamless playback and robust performance for over 100 media display endpoints. Each SA3400 operates independently, utilizing distinct mechanisms to back up audio and visual files. With a combined storage capacity of over 100TB, the SA3400 units effortlessly handle the museum's extensive media requirements.
Powered by SSDs, DS3622xs+ units and FS3600 units are used for live video edits through macOS endpoints. The FS3600 units are used for their rack-mount configuration, making them easy to manage in a server rack. The DS3622xs+ were chosen for their lower noise impact in portable and office environments, and they provide high-performance storage for media editing functions.
The video team utilizes multiple services for file sharing and collaboration. While exploring Synology's DSM packages, they discovered the license-free Active Backup suite of solutions for multiple providers. This solution protects their different enterprise service account from data loss, allowing them to easily restore data whenever needed.
The Museum of the Future, envisioned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, to institutionalize future-shaping. This extraordinary museum also known as a beacon of hope is located in the heart of Dubai where key attributes continue to drive both the museum and Dubai Future Foundation in their endeavors revolving around the future.
By combining futuristic designs crafted by artists and designers, the museum creates a unique attraction where visitors can explore and immerse themselves in a world that bridges the past and the future. The museum aims to provide light and hope in dark times, illustrating that today's challenges are stepping stones to a better world.
