Details
Starting from November 1, 2020, Synology Cloud Sync and Hyper Backup no longer have access to Amazon Drive, and the only way you can access your Amazon stored content is via Amazon Photos.
Resolution
How do I access my encrypted files on Amazon Drive?
Encrypted through Cloud Sync:
- Download your encrypted files from Amazon Drive and decrypt them using the Cloud Sync Decryption Tool, which is available for Windows and Linux-based platforms.1 You will need to use your password or encryption key to access the data.
- Upload your unencrypted files back to Amazon Drive (using Amazon Photos) or store them elsewhere as you choose.
Encrypted through Hyper Backup:
- To restore Hyper Backup.hbk archives, first download the file to your Synology NAS or a Windows, Mac, or Linux-based computer.
- On Synology NAS, launch Hyper Backup, select the Backup Explorer function, and then select the .hbk file.
- Restore the entire archive or select files based on your preferences.
- On other platforms, use the Hyper Backup Explorer application to browse and extract files from the backup archive.1
How do I share files via Synology Drive as an alternative?
- You can use Synology Drive to share and collaborate on files through a web interface or on desktop and mobile apps. Permissions and sharing limits can be customized to manage your data securely, plus you can use Synology QuickConnect to enable remote connections without port forwarding.

How do I back up files to an alternative destination via Hyper Backup?
Hyper Backup supports many backup destinations, enabling both on-premises and cloud-based options. To ease the transition, Synology is providing free C2 storage until March 31, 2021. Users affected by Amazon's decision can apply here before January 31, 2021.
Notes:
- You can download the Cloud Sync Decryption Tool and Hyper Backup Explorer in the Download Center. Select your NAS model and find the applications under the Desktop Utilities tab.
