Motion

In IP Camera > Edit > Event Detection > Motion, you can set up motion detection. Motion is defined by the changing pixels between continuous video frames.

Note:

  • For H.265 cameras, motion detection using Surveillance Station's algorithms is not available.

To enable motion detection using the camera's built-in algorithms:

  • Under Detection algorithm source, select By camera.
  • Before selecting Keep original camera settings, make sure you have configured settings about motion detection in your camera's web interface.
  • If you decide not keep the original settings, you will see the following configurations. Some of them might not appear due to the specifications of your third-party camera:
    • Detection Area: Use Included areas to specify where you wish to detect motion. Use Excluded areas to mask parts of the camera view where detection is not needed.
    • Sensitivity (1-99): Determine whether a big movement or small movement is needed to trigger an event. A larger value means only a small movement is required to trigger motion detection.
    • Threshold (1-99): Determine the level of movement needed to trigger an event. A larger value makes the detection harder to trigger.
    • History: Specify how long after an object that entered the detection area will be considered a non-moving part of the image. A larger value triggers motion detection for a longer time.
    • Object size: Set the minimum object size. Objects smaller than the set size cannot trigger events.
    • Trigger percentage (1-99%): Set the percentage of the object in the view. Objects smaller than the set percentage cannot trigger events.

To enable motion detection using Surveillance Station 's algorithms:

Under Detection algorithm source, select By Surveillance Station:

  • Sensitivity (1-99): Determine whether a big movement or small movement is needed to trigger an event. A larger value means only a small movement is required to trigger motion detection.
  • Threshold (1-99): Determine the level of movement needed to trigger an event. A larger value makes the detection harder to trigger.
  • Ignore short-lived motion: Set the minimum duration of the motion. Movements shorter than the specified time cannot trigger events.
  • Edit Detection Area allows you to define the detection grids with the 4 buttons: Add, Delete, Select all, and Delete all.

To integrate motion detection with other detection modes:

If your camera supports other event detection modes, enable the following options in the corresponding tabs:

  • When ACAP VMD is detected, trigger motion detection events as well
  • When audio is detected, trigger motion detection events as well
  • When tampering is detected, trigger motion detection events as well
  • When PIR is detected, trigger motion detection events as wel
