License

In License, you can see all the installed surveillance device licenses and check the number of licenses in use. If more are required, new ones can be added. Unnecessary licenses can be removed here as well.

Note:

  • Surveillance Station comes with different numbers of pre-installed device licenses (refer to your Synology device model for the exact number). These default licenses cannot be deleted or migrated.
  • Adding or deleting licenses requires an Internet connection to Synology Inc. for validation.
  • Certain surveillance devices may require more than one license. For more information, refer to this article.
  • To secure the ownership of licenses, we highly recommend adding your devices to the Synology Account.
  • To purchase more Synology surveillance device licenses, you can contact our authorized resellers. If you are located in Canada, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, or EU countries, make the purchase via the Synology Store. Please be sure to safely keep the license keys and the proof of purchase (e.g., invoice or receipt) afterward.

To add licenses:

  1. Click Add.
  2. Read the Terms and Conditions, tick the checkbox to agree, and click Next.
  3. If you are adding licenses from the CMS host server, select a server and click Next.
  4. Enter or paste the license keys you have purchased. (Click or to add or delete license keys.)
  5. Click Add. A summary of the license status will appear.
  6. If the licenses you entered have already been activated on other devices, you can migrate them over to the current device with an authenticated Synology Account. For more details, please refer to this article.

Note:

  • Default licenses cannot be migrated.

To delete licenses:

  1. Select the licenses you wish to delete, and click Delete.
  2. If you cannot connect to Synology Inc. for license verification during the deleting process, we may not be able to protect your rights and correctly transfer your licenses to another Synology device. In this case, please follow the steps in the offline deletion sections below to delete licenses.

  • Default licenses cannot be deleted.

To purchase licenses:

  1. Click Purchase to open a web page linking to the Synology Store.
  2. Note that the Purchase button only appears for residents in Canada, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, or EU countries.

To add/delete licenses offline via DS cam:

If your Surveillance Station server cannot access the Internet and connect to Synology Inc. for license validation, you can use DS cam to add or delete device licenses.

  1. Launch DS cam in an environment with Internet connection.
  2. In the login page, tap in the lower left corner and tap Offline License Validation.
  3. Tap Manage License > Add License/Delete License.
  4. Read the Terms and Conditions and tap Agree.
  5. Select a server or tap > Add Server. Tap Next to continue.
  6. Enter the license keys and tap Confirm.
  7. Return to an environment where DS cam can connect to your Surveillance Station server.
  8. Sign in to DS cam. The licenses will be added or deleted automatically.

To add/delete licenses offline via Surveillance Station Client:

If your Surveillance Station server cannot access the Internet and connect to Synology Inc. for license validation, you can use Synology Surveillance Station Client to add or delete device licenses.

  1. Launch Surveillance Station Client in an environment with Internet connection.
  2. In the login page, click in the lower right corner and go to the License Management tab.
  3. Click Manage License.
  4. Click Add License/Delete License.
  5. Read the Terms and Conditions, tick the checkbox to agree, and click Next.
  6. Select a server from the list below, or click Add and fill the in the required information to add a new server. Click Next to continue.
  7. Enter the license keys and click Next.
  8. Check the information in the appearing window and click Finish.
  9. Return to an environment where Surveillance Station Client can connect to your Surveillance Station server.
  10. Sign in to Surveillance Station Client. The licenses will be added or deleted automatically.

To update the list of licenses:

Click the Refresh button in the lower right corner to get the latest list of surveillance device licenses.

To show/hide license keys:

Click Show or Hide to toggle the display mode of license keys. The admin credentials will be required to completely display license keys.

Note:

  • If you are working with Central Management System (CMS), we recommend adding licenses to different recording servers to prevent the lack of licenses when the host server is unavailable.
  • The CMS host will perform the management over the licenses owned by the recording servers in the central management system. To add or delete licenses for the recording servers, you need to log in to the CMS host.
