Migration Assistant
Migration Assistant is an application for migrating data from one Synology NAS to a new one. With only a few simple steps to set up, this tool streamlines the traditional migration process and seamlessly migrate system settings and data.
To use Migration Assistant, install it on the destination device.

Source Synology NAS or source device

- Requires DSM 6.0 or above. However, we recommend updating to the latest version.

- The new device to which the data will be moved.
- Requires DSM 7.0 or above and must have the same or newer than the DSM version on the source device.
Migratable Items
Migration Assistant helps migrate services and data to a new Synology NAS. The following are migratable items:
- Data (migrated on a volume basis)
- Packages, package settings, and package data
- System configurations
Note:
- Firewall and DHCP server settings will be migrated. However, these services will be set to disable on the destination device by default.
- Migration Assistant does not support the migration of Peta Volume.
Non-Migratable Items
The following items will not be migrated by Migration Assistant (Learn more)
- The DSM version on the destination device will remain unchanged
- Synology Account-related services will be disabled after migration
- Licenses
- Network settings in Control Panel
- Server name, Default gateway, IPv6 default gateway in General tab
- Network Interface (except for VPN profile, IPv6 Tunneling, MTU value in IPv4 settings, and 802.1X)
- Static Route
- Push Service settings in Control Panel > Notification > Push Service
- Desktop widget and taskbar settings
- Virtual Machine Manager's settings
Note:
- Migration Assistant supports certain Synology NAS models as source/destination devices.
- If you have Synology High Availability installed on the destination device, Migration Assistant cannot be installed.
- If you fit into any of the following scenarios, you may not be able to migrate even if your source and destination devices have the same drive number and capacity. Instead, use more drives or drives with higher capacity on the destination device to create a larger storage pool.
- Your source and destination devices have different RAID type and Multiple volume support settings in Storage Manager.
- The storage pool on the source device was created in DSM 7.0 or earlier, but the destination device has been clean-installed with DSM 7.1 or later.
- The storage pool on the source device was created in DSM 7.0 or earlier, but a Factory Reset has been performed via Control Panel > Update & Restore > System Reset on the destination device running DSM 7.1 or later.
