Processing and storing huge amount of video data

Efficient content production and video broadcasting were hindered by the substantial storage demands, particularly given the significant file sizes of HD and UHD video formats. Processing and storing 1 TB of multimedia files daily required robust and fast storage servers. This posed operational challenges, including potential delays, increased operational costs, and difficulties in accessing and exchanging materials between remote locations and other centers.

United Media needed a highly reliable and cost effective solution that not only allows them to store large amounts of data but also quickly access and process the retrieved data that is easy to manage.

To address these challenges, United Media turned to TechPoets, a local Synology partner, to adopt Synology's comprehensive suite of solutions to streamline all of United Media's dynamic requirements.

The Solution

To address these challenges, United Media turned to TechPoets, a local Synology partner, to adopt Synology's comprehensive suite of solutions to streamline all of United Media's dynamic requirements.

A robust and scalable data management infrastructure and engineering department, now operates on stations connected to Synology NAS.

The integration of Synology Drive provided a seamless and secure platform for efficient sharing across centres and quick remote access. Additionally, for backup, there are systems with LTO drives that transfer material from Synology servers to LTO tapes.

Critical data such as financial reports, copies of e-mails are also stored on external HDD - the automation of this process is successfully done by USB Copy.

Streaming of video content, i.e. video on demand of certain shows, for internal use, is done with Video Station. These integrated solutions not only ensure data integrity but also contribute to the efficiency of our daily operations, making Synology a comprehensive and reliable choice for our diverse storage needs.

Previously, we used three servers: SMB share, FTP, and Streamer; now, one Synology server does it all. The tailored solutions provided by Synology have resulted in a more optimized and scalable infrastructure, accommodating United Media's growing demands. Editing and playout performance have seen measurable enhancements, with estimates indicating a notable percentage increase in overall efficiency.
