Discontinuation Notice for HEVC (H.265), AVC (H.264), and VC-1 Transcoding on DSM and BeeStation OS Platforms
Published: 2024-08-26As support for video codecs is widespread on end devices such as smartphones, tablets, computers, and smart TVs, Synology is launching a strategic transition to offload media processing to client devices in all versions of DiskStation Manager (DSM) and BeeStation OS to enhance system efficiency.
This update reduces unnecessary resource usage on the server and significantly improves media processing efficiency. The optimization is particularly effective in high-user environments compared to traditional server-side processing.

Note 1: Surveillance Station on DSM will continue to support server-side processing of AVC streams.
