Fashion Rerun Utilizes Synology Productivity Tools for Seamless Data Synchronization and Enhanced Backup Protection Across Branch Offices

Prior to 2015, Fashion Rerun hosted their shared resources on a data system that was ultimately of limited value for their needs. Their offices and warehouses rely heavily on data management tools to sort, grade, pack, and track approximately 120 pallets of second-hand clothing every day, and their warehouses alone have 40 workstations that depend on fast, reliable access to these resources.

Fashion Rerun were in search of a new solution that offered fast, reliable performance for their workloads. Their next solution would need to support comprehensive data backups, and have better options for secure file sharing. Fashion Rerun hosts data for their daily operations on a 12-bay Synology Plus Series system, with an additional 8-bay server used for external backups. They have 56 TB of storage capacity in their main system, and their current data needs consume nearly half that amount. Should they require more storage capacity in the future, this system can scale up to 144 TB of raw storage when fully expanded with the optional DX1215 unit from Synology.

This deployment allows warehouse staff to effectively work with large media files and accelerate their workflow. The 40 warehouse workstations use this data resource in tandem with office users, with local access being accomplished over SMB. Fashion Rerun gradually rolled out this deployment between 2015 and 2017, scaling out and up with additional features and storage capacity as needed.

Hyper Backup, a license-free solution from Synology, allows Fashion Rerun to back up and restore folders, applications, and system settings, and clone their entire Synology system if necessary. File-level recovery helps safeguard against accidental modification or deletion, and backups can be fully automated, thereby minimizing the involvement of IT staff. Multi-versioning, deduplication, and highly configurable rotation policies further enhance protection against data loss.
