FAWSEC enhances storage efficiency and streamlined backup processes while achieving significant cost savings.

FAWSEC originally relied on traditional Windows file servers as its primary file service solution, complemented by a separate third-party backup software and hardware for data protection. However, FAWSEC discovered that the traditional file server architecture was unable to meet the growing demand for remote access. At the same time, the overall cost of maintaining the file servers and backup software licenses, hardware devices, along with the CAL licenses purchased based on user count, had become increasingly burdensome. This compelled FAWSEC to seek out a more comprehensive and integrated data storage solution.

The company implemented a robust solution by deploying two identical Synology NAS units at each of their two office sites. One unit served as the primary file server, supporting over 350 users and 150 users respectively. While the other functioned as a backup file server backing up data from their virtual and SaaS environments.

 

This configuration presents numerous advantages, particularly in eliminating the monthly subscription fee associated with Windows Client Access Licenses (CAL). By seamlessly facilitating file access, it empowers the team to retrieve files effortlessly from any location, fostering enhanced accessibility and flexibility.

 

 

Recognizing the need for a more efficient and cost-effective backup solution, FAWSEC started to explore the built-in solution Synology offers. By leveraging Active Backup for Business, the need was immediately fulfilled without the hassle to seek for another separate solution provider. Furthermore, the deduplication feature significantly reduced backup sizes, optimizing overall storage capacity and reducing the need for additional storage investments.

 

The company also leverages Active Backup for Microsoft 365 to safeguard their management mailbox and critical data. This solution ensures the availability of important emails or contents even if they were accidentally deleted or had exceeded the archiving duration in Microsoft 365.

 

 

Through the adoption of Synology's solutions, FAWSEC successfully overcame the challenges associated with traditional Windows file servers and separate backup appliances. The built-in backup application led to streamlined backup processes, improved data storage efficiency, and significant cost savings.
