Home Guest IoT Office Security
The "Home" network - Your primary network is probably where most of your devices reside - laptops, tablets, mobile devices, and smart TVs or speakers. Using Safe Access, you can easily create a default network profile that blocks malicious content and also applies more restrictive filtering on shopping, adult, or other offensive content - great for kids.
A better "Guest" network - Need to share access to visiting friends or even your neighbors? SRM enables you to isolate the network and set up access for the occasional connection to your Chromecast or AirPlay device. Apply more stringent bandwidth constraints and web filtering to ensure your network and connection quality are not affected even by compromised devices.
The "IoT" network - Smart sensors, IP cameras, and more are convenient but could become compromised due to less security emphasis placed on these devices. Many devices connect through the internet and don't require LAN access, meaning you can keep them separated from your primary network without affecting functionality. For more advanced management, such as connecting IP cameras to a Synology NAS, one-way rules allow limited access to specific devices.
Learn more about network segregation
Your home “Office” network - Call it whatever you want, but whether you are running your own business or just have a well-equipped studio or homelab setup, you can isolate your servers and devices to help prevent interference or security issues if it is hosting external resources or is often accessed by remote colleagues.
Security description
How convenience can meet security IoT products can easily be segregated, avoiding potential exploitation without affecting functionality. Garage Living room and kitchen Gardens and yards Bedrooms and bathrooms Newer vehicles, dashcams, HVAC systems, and battery/solar power systems are increasingly equipped with network connectivity for greater control and insight into their performance (e.g., energy generated from your solar installation). Many TVs and speakers can now respond to voice commands, making them an ideal fit for smart home platforms with multi-room playback capabilities and hands-free access. Smart connectivity also makes it possible to receive recipes or timely reminders about the condition of food stored in your smart fridge. Video doorbells introduce convenient and safe ways to check who is at your door. No matter how busy you are, smart gardening systems can optimize irrigation. And when you get visitors, multiple PIR sensors and lights can be linked together to increase illumination and create more comfortable environments. Modern bedrooms can be furnished with networked window blinds, smart lighting, and HVAC controls to improve the atmosphere. Next-generation fire, smoke, and carbon monoxide sensors are easier to link together and can work in conjunction with your smartphone to send out critical alerts.

Frequently Asked Questions What is mesh Wi-Fi and what are the benefits of using it?
Mesh Wi-Fi is a whole-home Wi-Fi system that enables multiple routers to work together, providing wider and more reliable network coverage under a single Wi-Fi name.
How do I set up a Wi-Fi mesh network?

You will need at least two Synology Routers, one to function as the main unit and others as Wi-Fi points (see table for details). Setup is quick and easy and can be done through a web browser or the DS router mobile app. Refer to the following guide for detailed instructions.

Primary Wi-Fi Point Additional Wi-Fi Point
RT6600ax RT6600ax, WRX560, RT2600ac*, MR2200ac
WRX560 WRX560, RT2600ac*, MR2200ac
RT2600ac RT2600ac*, MR2200ac
MR2200ac MR2200ac

*To use RT2600ac as an additional Wi-Fi point, users must upgrade to SRM 1.3 or above and then perform a hard reset.

What are VLANs and what are their benefits? How should I set them up?
See the following guide to learn about everything VLAN.
When setting up mesh, where do I place my Wi-Fi points for the best Wi-Fi signal?
