The Challenge
Stadium MK relied on a manual system for tracking guest entries, with security personnel stationed at each entrance gate to count attendees using handheld clickers. While effective to a point, this approach presented logistical challenges, such as the need for extensive training, associated labour costs, and potential inaccuracies when guests encountered issues that required manual intervention.
Accurately counting attendees was critical for liability and capacity management, however, obtaining live data on traffic flows across multiple gates was challenging. Real-time updates depended on manual communications and periodic log entries, making it challenging to maintain consistent accuracy and timely reporting. Additionally, timely insights into which areas were busier than others was not straightforward, further complicating operational efficiency and crowd management. This highlighted the need for a more streamlined, precise solution to track guest movements and capacity data.
The Solution
Stadium MK deployed Synology’s TC500 cameras to enhance guest monitoring and crowd management. By positioning multiple cameras per gate, the stadium achieved precise coverage across various ingress points and turnstiles. The deployment process was seamless, utilising batch configuration through Synology’s Surveillance Station. Once connected, the cameras were quickly identified using network IP scanning, enabling rapid authentication and setup.
Thanks to the user-friendly interface, configuring each camera’s location became significantly easier. Features such as playback and recording enabled remote fine-tuning, minimising the need for on-site adjustments. This saved considerable time and effort, as staff could optimise settings using pre-recorded footage.
Stadium MK’s Synology solution leverages the DVA unit’s real-time AI capabilities to provide features such as people counting and crowd detection. Before this implementation, the stadium struggled to obtain accurate, timely data on guest movements. Now, the DVA unit handles AI tasks, delivering live updates and integrating data into a user-friendly interface. This enables staff to make informed decisions and quickly adapt to changing crowd dynamics.
Key AI functionalities include two-way people counting with automated congestion alerts when crowd limits are reached, along with robust reporting tools that consolidate and filter data from all cameras. These comprehensive insights have significantly improved crowd flow management and streamlined event planning.
Synology’s Surveillance Station has enhanced Stadium MK’s security measures while seamlessly integrating with their existing systems. The newly installed cameras provide additional coverage for previously unsupervised areas, bolstering overall security. Real-time visibility through live dashboard updates further improves crowd management and situational awareness.
All camera footage is securely stored on the DVA unit, ensuring robust data protection and compliance with industry standards.
